Veronica, a Russian ambassador worked on Youth Montage Project, discovered a lot of things during her stay in Indonesia, especially on Ramadan month. Read below to get a picture of things she discovered:
about Ramadan month in Indonesia:
“There are two things which I like about the celebration. First of all, it is your tradition to gather together with all your relatives and celebrate together. It is so different from my country because in Russia nowadays nearly no one meets with their relatives during celebrations: we just spend time with our friends or our small family or go somewhere abroad. Secondly, I like your traditional dresses: again it is so different, so beautiful and colorful.
So, all in all, I would like to say that I like the fact that Indonesian people are trying to save their unique culture and traditions and I am so happy that I had a chance to be there in Indonesia during this very special period — Ramadan!”
about what Veronica learned in Indonesia:
“I think there are many things that I learned and achieved in Indonesia.
First of all, it is patience and I think you know why: firstly, it is because of the crazy traffic in Jakarta and, secondly, the pace people work is quite different from European countries and Russia, so, for me it was quiet shocking first time.
Secondly, I learned how to be a teacher for students who don’t speak your native language. Moreover, I think I learned how to make friends with people in a very short time, for me it is very unusual and hard because at home I don’t have a lot of friends and sometimes I am so picky in this issue, but in Indonesia people are so different from my country (more open and more friendly) so it was very easy to find a topic to speak about and to get to know each other.
